Hair war - a repair case update

Dear readers,
The following videoclip shows the hair being combed in different directions and parted at various points. To show the density as well as the lack of the former pluggy appearance.

Hairwar is the net name of a poster on various hairloss related discussion forums. He is a Caucasian from Europe. His journey through hair transplants as well as his experiences may help other HT aspirants to plan their hair restoration procedure.
A brief history - Hairwar is presently in his mid thirties. He first noticed hair loss in 1993.
In 1995, he had 2 strip hair transplant surgeries (about 300 grafts in each session), in Switzerland.
In 1996, he had 2 more strip surgeries within 2 weeks gap at another clinic in Switzerland (again about 300 grafts in each session).
In 1997, he had 1 more strip surgery (600 grafts) in Switzerland.
In 2004, hairwar had a FUE surgery in a clinic in Turkey. Total 1150 FUE grafts. 600 of them placed in crown & 550 placed in hairline. Hairwar feels that his FUE surgery in Turkey led to shock loss in the transplanted hairline and a %age of the transplanted FUE grafts in the hairline did not grow. That amounts to a total of 5 strip surgeries and 1 FUE surgery before coming to us.
If hair war had not got any hair transplants, today he would be a NW5.
Hair war has average scalp laxity in the donor area.

4683 FUSE grafts - 9 mth update (TH)

TH revisited our clinic at 9 months since his first HT, for second part of his hair restoration surgery.

4683 FUSE grafts

Patient particulars
TH is a NW 6 patient of Maori descent.
He has had no other hair restortion surgeries ever.

His 5 month update can be read at
http://hairtransplantcentre.blogspot.com/2007/10/dear-forum-readers-patient-th-sent-his.html

Graft details of 1st HT -
4683 FUSE grafts (of which only 2099 are from the scalp) - 44%.

719 chest, 1533 leg, 206 armpit and 126 abdomen grafts make the rest - 56%.

We shall present the detailed pre operative, intra operative and 9 month post operative pictorial history.
Thereafter, we shall discuss the 2nd time FUSE (scalp + BHT) performed recently.

But first, a quick before and after picture comparison.
Before
After 9 months (we expect further improvement in the first HT's density in the next 3 months).

Pre op Pictures and surgical plan

TH being a Norwood 6 had an extensive area to cover.
In the first stage, the options were to go for a low hairline (almost Norwood 1) or to remain conservatively high.
As the pictures below show

Some closer pictures showing the extent of hairloss.

More pre op pictures

9 months after pictures of recipient area:

9 months after (buzzed donor area pictures)

TH keeps his scalp donor area buzz cut. Something that is possible following the FUSE extractions.
In TH's first HT, 2099 grafts were extracted.

The following pictures show the scalp donor area after 9 months.

2nd HT (Jan 2008) - the plan

In the second stage of his hair restoration, TH wishes to go for a lower hairline and to fill in the crown areas behind the previous transplant.

The plan -

The final hairline will consist of mostly scalp hair mixed with hair from the thigh and the chest.

The crown will be filled using some scalp hair grafts mixed with grafts from the armpit, pubic, chest and beard areas.
The aim being to focus on the more robust hair, rather than on sheer numbers to provide coverage. That is to say, better coverage value per graft.

2nd HT - hairline design

TH has opted for temple closure and a three peaked feathered hairline.
The following pictures explain the hairline design.

Video - donor shaved - for those concerned about donor scarring is shown below.

Farscalpe at the seminar

Dear readers,
Farscalpe is the nickname of a forum poster from N. America.

He had undergone a 5900 + FUSE graft procedure in Dec 2006.
He visited us for further transplants in Nov 2007 and was kind enough to be a part of the seminar.
He is a Norwood 6 and keeps his hair buzz cut.
People quizzed him and examined his donor and recipient areas minutely to look for any visible scarring.

Of the 5900 grafts, only approx. 1900 grafts were from the scalp donor areas. The rest were from the different body donor areas (chest, abdomen, lower limbs etc.).

You may view excerpts of the videorecording featuring Farscalpe at the HT seminar on 1 Nov 2007.
His face has been blurred in the video at his request.

Finallyfree was Norwood 6 stage hairloss patient when he first visited us.
He has undergone 11,000 + grafts in successive procedures utilizing scalp, body and beard donor hair. His future procedures are scheduled to thicken the crown area.

Below is a video recording we took when he visited us recently. In the videorecording, you can see Finallyfree combing his hair as well as the comb being used to part the transplanted hair in different ways to show the naturalness and the density.

The first is a medium definition video. The second the third are parts of the high definition video.
